The third concert of the seven cats contemporary music series will take place on Wednesday, August 17, 2011, 7:30p at the Community United Church of Christ in Boulder, CO. Seven Cats is based in Boston and this concert represents its first venture outside of the Hub. Six pieces exploring a variety of pianistic styles and aesthetic aims will be presented. Jeremy Van Buskirk's Aurora explores how a modicum of sound can hold a space. Hubert Ho's Injection Refraction pays homage to the piano music of Olivier Messiaen. University of Colorado DMA graduate Mike Barnett's flourishing Lunar Rhapsody brings us to the fringes of the moon, real and imagined. Edwin Dugger's Winter Tales consist of a series of short vignettes dedicated to friends in Japan. Reynold Tharp's Littoral takes its cue from both France and California: as implied by the title, the music straddles the boundaries between land and water, solid and liquid. Denver-based composer Timothy Brown's Chansons sans Paroles carries undertones of the desolate and the macabre. All pieces were written and conceived in Boston, Berkeley, or Colorado, or by composers who have lived in one of these three cities, hence the name BoBeCo.
